Sen. Bennet “Doesn’t Confuse the Blogosphere with Real People and Real Voters”

Yesterday I told you that Coloradans delivered a petition with over 35,000 signatures to Senator Bennet, asking him to stand by his word and force the vote on a public option.

The response from Bennet’s office?

Michael Bennet “doesn’t confuse the blogosphere with real people and real voters.”

This is one of the most insulting quotes by a politician to the blogosphere I’ve ever seen.

The blogosphere is full of real people and real voters. If you care about the Internet, believe in the public option, and are tired of politicians politicking and posturing instead of standing up for people, donate $10 to Andrew Romanoff right now.

Full disclosure: I am currently an advisor to the Romanoff campaign

He’s making it clear ‘real’ voters either agree with him or aren’t paying attention. Guys like him shouldn’t be in public office, denigrating active interested citizens as somehow not valid or legitimate.

If the blogosphere isn’t real, then the money I make there as a professional blogger must not either. Woo hoo! Guess I don’t have to pay taxes on it! Thanks Senator Bennet!

Don’t you think you should mention that you’re WORKING for Romanoff? According to Wikipedia, you are. You don’t mention that here. And here’s a link to it: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/01/29/joe-trippi-3-other-consul_n_442740.html

How many times will you do this?? You know you have zero credibility at this point, right? And you know that tends to rub off on the candidates you’re working for, right?

    This is just silly.

And of all the names on that petition – how many of them are from people in Colorado – you know, those real voters Bennet is talking about.

I am a “real” voter who lives in 2 different states, but of course I only vote in 1 state, and it’s not Colorado. In fact, in the past 3 election cycles I have made “real” contributions to a slew of candidates in at least two dozen different states. Something that I wouldn’t have been able or aware enough to do before Howard Dean made internet political organizing a “reality” back in 2002-3004. Bennet disses blogosphere influence and online activists like me at his very “real” peril, because people just like me can bring “real” pressure, provide “real” funding, make others in his state aware of “real” issues, and get “real” voters in his state to the “real” polls on election day.
