Facebook traffic nears Google, Yahoo

Web traffic numbers for May are out, and Facebook has shown a continued upward trend, gaining more ground over MySpace, which has shown stagnant or negative growth over the past few months, and Twitter, which grew just 1% in May.

InsideFacebook has a look at the Facebook and Facebook Connect stats–the two combined for 113 million views in May–but things get more interesting when you look at Facebook’s traffic compared to search giants Yahoo and Google.

Facebook surpassed MSN (now Bing) in March, and is nearing levels enjoyed by Google and Yahoo, which have both remained around 140 million views per month over the past 12 months. Bing has seen a jump in use compared to now-defunct MSN search since its rollout last week, but we will have to wait and see how that compares to the other web giants, Yahoo and Google, and whether or not Facebook will continue its rise to meet or exceed their traffic levels.

When comparing Facebook’s smaller advertising footprint on the screen compared to myspace’s, the writing is on the wall. How do they stack up with wikipedia and craigslist?
