They’re Everywhere

A lot of attention has been given to the 50 plus military Veterans who are running for Congress as Democrats this year, but we also need to look at some of the strong candidates we have fielded for state legislatures as well. Case in point, Andrew Borene running for the state Senate in Minnesota.

As a former Marine Intelligence Officer who served in Iraq, (and I have met with Andrew so I know what I am about to say to be true) Andrew has more than enough skills to serve as a state Senator. Remember, a great number of our active troops now come from our state’s National Guard and it would be a tremendous asset for us to have people like Andrew serving the public again by claiming seats in our state legislatures.

Not only has Andrew displayed the courage to take on the issues facing those in Minnesota, but this guy has the credentials and the temerity to take on the national stuff too. Within the past few days, some astro turf organization called the Progress for America Voter Fund started running television ads in Andrew’s backyard that is clearly aimed at misinforming the public about our mission in Iraq. Since Andrew was there it is only fitting that he call them out and he did here .

So just as important as it is for us to elect Vets to Congress, we must not overlook those men and women who served who are now up for election at the state and local levels.

I wonder how many of these guys the national party is going to take out because they prefer someone else in the primary …

I think the Rahm Emmanuel/Paul Hackett storyline was blown out of proportion. After having read several sources on the issue, it appears that Emmanuel looked at the money race between the two Dems (Hackett was/is trailing Brown badly) and concluded that Hackett would be a much better bet to beat Schmidt in a rematch for OH-02. It’s bad that the matter’s become what it is, but it shouldn’t be this bad.

Oh oh for the poll sniffers out there we have from Faux News Democrats Make Gains on Issues

“The most recent FOX News poll shows that voters see Democrats as better at handling an array of key issues and gaining public trust on some areas traditionally considered Republican strengths”

“However, Democrats are now seen as the party that would do a better job on taxes (+ 5 points), and voters are about equally likely to pick Democrats on handling Iraq — issues that are traditionally thought of as being in the Republican column.”

Who would have thought most Americans would consider a balanced budget and proper funding of critical social programs over welfare for the rich?

A sad description of the immorality of so many modern “Christian” theocrats.

“The buildings and technologies of the mega-fellowships are edifices to capitalism, free market economics, and the entrepreneurial spirit. The lexicon is slightly different but the concepts are exactly the same as those of CEO motivational speakers or a slick late night infomercial promoting real estate schemes. You can do it! You can win! You can be a success! You are smart! There are no limits to what you can achieve. Just send me some money and get started today. A quick internet search reveals sources concerning the personal life styles of the pastors of many of these churches. Their seed faith has been harvested into private jets, extravagant cars, multimillion dollar homes and much, much more. The storehouses are overflowing and with this wealth comes power.”

As they push for war abroad and in their pursuit of power we can see the damage they have done in their unholy union with the neocons.

    More sad news from Iraq
“Pena was up on the schoolhouse roof manning the same .50-caliber machine gun. He didn’t say a word about the man he’d killed. As he stared at a patch of earth in front of him, at Samarra and its wreckage, he couldn’t contain his frustration.
“No one told me why I’m putting my life on the line in Samarra, and you know why they didn’t?” Pena asked. “Because there is no f—— reason.”

Finally some new news on Global Warming, published in Science, the Greenland glaciers are melting faster than thought, already at a rate that will raise the ocean by 1/4″ per ten years but with the potential to raise the ocean by 22 feet. Scientists are now predicting this rate to accelerate and thus increase the overall rate of 0.1″/year. Also they are concerned that the melting ice will desalinate a great region of ocean in that area causing mass extinctions of saltwater species.
