Joe, you are so right, as always (or okay, really, really often). Speaking as a very progressive yet still Democrat who keeps track daily of politics via DemocraticUnderground.com, people in Washington would be AMAZED at the anger, disillusionment, disenchantment, frustration, even outright despair among the Democratic electorate. Only the most dysfuntional of wgat I consider co-dependent enablers are thoroughly supportive of Obama and people in Congress. What we really need for 3rd parties to thrive is Instant Runoff Voting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant-runoff_voting – otherwise, when I’m voting, I fear “wasting my vote” (on a 3rd party) or unintentionally “voting for someone I really don’t want to win” because I siphoned votes off from my choice of “the top two.” Thanks for the article.

I agree with your analysis, but I think the real action will come much sooner–during the nomination season, where there will be many more contests in both Partys slated outsiders against the insiders, plus many more third and fourth party candidates. A Hoffman win would ensure a lot more competitive nominating races and an end to the “conventional wisdom” coming out of Washington Parties and mainstream media pundits.

I changed my registration in 2005 from Democrat to Independent — I couldn’t follow the Republicans, ever, but I couldn’t really support the disjointed non-action of the Democrats. They’re doing OK in 2009 but only in small fits and starts; they remain largely unorganized and not doing the work of the people.

I would love for nothing more than 2010 to see real independents come back into the fray and shake things up like 1992. I think something is brewing in this country and you’re starting to put your finger on the pulse.
