Washington Times Corrects the Record
Link to correction can be found here
“Due to an editing error, The Washington Times yesterday incorrectly reported the comments by a spokesman for Maryland senatorial candidate Kweisi Mfume regarding racially tinged attacks against Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele. Mfume spokesman Joseph R. Trippi said it was wrong to pelt Mr. Steele with Oreo cookies or to call him an “Uncle Tom.” ”
Oh yeah, it was just an editing error….
“Even the spokesman for Mr. Mfume’s campaign said pelting Mr. Steele with Oreo cookies and calling him an “Uncle Tom” are simply “pointing out the obvious.”
When it was actually……
“Trippi said it was wrong to pelt Mr. Steele with Oreo cookies or to call him an “Uncle Tom.”
Joe,
Give em hell!
How on earth has it become commonplace to print out and out lies? The Washington Times has never had my interest nor my respect.
Keep on fighting the good fight.
INCOMING!!
Black conservative leadership group uses the Times quote in morning press release:
“Some, however, seem unoffended — in one case, even enthusiastic about — the racial attacks on Steele. According to the Washington Times, white political consultant Joe Trippi said calling Steele an “Uncle Tom” is “pointing out the obvious.” Trippi is a spokesman for Mfume …”

…so aptly illustrates the power of the press — especially when they are inaccurate and downright reckless — of which we in the dean campaign became painfully aware.
First, let me say this, there’s comedy, there’s high comedy, there’s transcendent comedy, and then there’s the Washington Times “retraction” of their “story.” An editing mistake? My father was a newspaper editor for almost 20 years. He made mistakes, surely, by forgetting to change misspelled words or he wrote the occasional bad headline. This, however, wasn’t a mistake, it was an attack from a biased “reporter” who had the backing of his “news organization.”
Secondly, there’s only one thing to do with morons like this. You take them out back, and spank their ass. Because that’s how children learn.
Thanks for clearing that up, Joe. BTW, your WA Times link doesn’t work. I think you’re missing a “www”.
It was an editing error, all right. It looks like there must have been a problem with the editor’s chair-keyboard interface.
uh-oh, more fallout:

“Which brings us back to the racist attacks on Maryland Senate candidate Michael Steele, and the response of Kweise Mfume senior campaign advisor Joe Trippi. Where is the MSM drumbeat for Trippi to be fired or resign? When is Trippi going to apologize? “
The original story looks like it was just posted here on the Investors Business Daily site:
